Since 2003, The Mediterranean Transit Migration (MTM) Dialogue stands as an informal consultative platform between migration officials in countries of origin, transit, and destination along migration routes in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.

The guiding principles of the MTM Dialogue are informal, technical, and non-binding.

While it initially focused on transit migration, the MTM extended its scope over the years to cover various aspects of irregular and mixed migration, as well as migration and development.

Current Focus:

• Interception and apprehension of irregular migrants;

• Combating smuggling and trafficking, including the protection of victims;

• Reception and detention of irregular migrants;

• Asylum and refugee protection; and

• Return and readmission.
